PuppyNS is a small secondary DNS service. You keep your current DNS as the primary source of truth, and PuppyNS keeps a secondary copy when your primary nameserver allows zone transfers.
When you add a zone, PuppyNS receives the domain name and the optional primary nameserver or IP address if you provide one. If you leave the primary blank, PuppyNS may look up the zone's SOA record and store the primary it found.
PuppyNS stores status check results such as transfer state, SOA details, delegation checks, and the primary addresses used for zone transfers. The service may also keep IP addresses, rate-limit records, security logs, and operator logs so it can prevent abuse and keep the service working.
PuppyNS uses this data to provide secondary DNS, check whether zone transfers and parent delegation work, show status pages, prevent abuse, and troubleshoot service issues.
PuppyNS does not collect account profile data because there are no public accounts. PuppyNS does not collect payment data because there is no billing. PuppyNS does not provide a DNS record editor, so it does not collect record-editing history.
DNS records become public once a zone is delegated and served. If your primary nameserver allows transfers, PuppyNS may receive a copy of the zone contents so it can answer as a secondary nameserver.
PuppyNS keeps zone and status data while it needs that data to provide the service, handle abuse, or understand recent operational issues. Unfinished or inactive setups may be removed after a while so the service stays tidy.
PuppyNS uses access controls for operator areas and keeps service secrets out of public pages and logs. No small service can promise perfect security, but PuppyNS keeps the amount of personal data low on purpose.
